About Us
who are we
The National Association of Patient Organizations brings together patient organizations focused on all types of illness and disability operating in the Czech Republic. NAPO’s mission is to promote the collective interests of patients and provide support to its member organizations.
NAPO was founded on 17 November 2021 with eleven founding members. However, the Steering Committee has been active since the beginning of 2021 and has been successful in advocating for priority Covid-19 vaccination for people with chronic illness, supporting the amendment to the Public Health Insurance Act during its passage in the Czech Parliament, and other activities.
There are approximately 140 patient organizations in the Czech Republic. Eleven of them are currently members of the umbrella organization NAPO.
NAPO’S POSITION IN HEALTH PROMOTION
Our goal is for NAPO to become a respected partner for the Ministry of Health, the State Office for Drug Control, the State Institute of Health, and other health promotion institutions that seek or consult the views of patients.
THE NAPO’S POSITION VIS-À-VIS THE PATIENT COUNCIL OF THE MINISTER OF HEALTH
The Patients’ Council is an advisory body to the Minister of Health, composed of representatives of patient organizations, which provides a consultative service to the Minister.
In contrast, the National Association of Patients’ Organizations was set up for advocacy and awareness-raising activities and is authorized to represent patients before state authorities. It also represents Czech patient organizations at international level.
