Program

The conference program comprises of presentations by experts and panel discussions of politicians, public institutions and patient organizations. The international event will bring together delegates from European countries. The online audience will be able to participate by asking questions and answering polls via an app.

Upon arrival at the Residence of the Mayor of Prague you will get your participant’s badge and info materials. Come early so that you have time to enjoy a tour around representative halls of this architectural and artistic jewel in arc deco style.

Robert Hejzák, the Chairman of the National Association of Patients’ Organizations will officially open the event. 

Dr. Karen Facey, a health expert and Senior Visiting Fellow at the University of Edinburgh with a passion for the Czech Republic will outline the topic of the conference.

Nicola Bedlington will introduce a theoretical basis of the topic of the conference. She will explore the benefits of patients’ organizations on the European level in terms of their added value and 15 years of experience. She will show how patients’ organizations work on the national level and what role they take on in the post-covid era. Reactions and comments of present ministers of health will follow.

Presentations will be given by Maria Mavris from the European Medicines Agency (EMA), Irena Storová from the State Institute for Drug Control (SÚKL) and Kateřina Slabá from the Department of Patients’ Rights at the Czech Ministry of Health.

A lunch in a form of a buffet

This program block will explore various fields (excluding HTA) in which patients’ organizations can participate in decision-making.

Examples of good practice will be showcased. The Irish approach will be presented by Derick Mitchell from the Irish Platform for Patient Organisations, Science & Industry (IPPOSI).

In Bulgaria, a patients’ organization is a member of a health insurance company board. The case will be presented by Maryia Petrova, the consultant of the National Patients Organization and the Partnership for Health Council.

Representatives from GAT organization in Portugal Margarida Santos and Laetitia will present the Charter of Rights and Duties of Patients.

Richard Norris from the Scottish Health Council will explain how relations are set up in Scotland.

A panel discussion of the representatives of Bulgaria, Portugal, Ireland and Scotland follows. 

Many changes have been under way recently such as  digital medicine or post-pandemic situation, and patients’ organizations must respond. We will discuss about challenges that await European patients’ organizations and which priorities they should focus on. 

This program block will be open by a presentation by Stanimir Hasardzhiev who is one of the founding members of the Patient Access Partnership (PACT) and a Director General of Bulgarian National Patients’ Organization (NPO).

Radu Ganescu from the European Patients’ Forum will introduce a draft of the final conclusion document of the conference. Its content will be adjusted according to the results of a following panel discussion. Guests:
